A sound masking system emits low-level, non-distracting masking noise designed to reduce speech intelligibility and improve speech privacy. Sound masking can also reduce the distraction caused by traffic, office machinery and other unwanted sounds.

Emergency call box intercom is common on large campuses and in parking decks and parking lots. Solar powered wireless call boxes are now available for remote locations where hard wire powered systems are not feasible. Remote intercom communication is also possible using standard phone lines.
